Ancient Egyptians already used to wear a version of flip-flops, but sandals became an essential element of the wardrobe only later, thanks to the Romans. Nowadays, they are a real style icon, beautifully crafted following in the tradition of Capri or Positano manufacture. In fact, local artisans have been crafting amazing high-quality leather sandals for many years, which probably share the same origin with Capri and Positano being so close. These shoes are the epitome of both places’ craftsmanship.
Sandals made in Positano or Capri originate from a refined artisan’s production that has become very popular all over the world: from the ‘50s, thanks to famous people, including Maria Callas, Jackie Onassis, Princess Soraya, Brigitte Bardot, Sophia Loren etc. to most recent years, with Naomi Campbell or Julia Roberts.
Nowadays, it is fairly common to find reproductions of the Positano (or Capri) style, including beautifully crafted sandals, in other famous coast towns of Campania: Sorrento and its surroundings, Amalfi, the area of Cilento, but also Ischia and Procida, have several workshops related to the manufacture of typical summer top-quality shoes.
